Apparently, 7 per cent of the Indian population have disorders related to speech and hearing, but there are only a handful of specialists to deal with it. Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists (ASLP) are involved in identifying, evaluating and intervening persons with hearing and communication difficulties across the globe. Starting with classification of disorders, recognizing and deciding on the strategies that will best benefit the person, and assist them throughout are the key objectives of ASLPs.
All of them came together for the Indian Speech and Hearing Association’s (ISHA) 45th National Convention of the Indian Speech and Hearing Association, ISHACON 2013 held recently.
Dr N Rathna, Retired director of All India Institute Of Speech And Hearing, Mysore and Dr Mohan Kameswaran, Director, Madras ENT Research Foundation, led the conference from the forefront.
Eminent Scientists, Academicians, Clinicians and Students and delegates over 1000 from all over the country participated and exhibited their research work, to share their expertise to develop new strategies to improve the quality of life of children and adults with hearing and communication disorders.
