Traffic Disruption: Case against Driver
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The traffic police have registered a case against the KSRTC driver who obstructed traffic by parking the bus driven by him in the middle of the road following an inspection by the police the other day. Driver S K Mani is attached to the Pappanamcode KSRTC depot.
The driver of the Venad bus plying from East Fort to Neyyattinkara was stopped by the Fort SI to check whether he had drunk or not. When the police took the breath analyser, the driver refused to cooperate and he immediately informed all other bus drivers. This led to a protest, which further created a traffic snarl for over two hours. Meanwhile, the KSRTC has lodged a complaint with the police regarding the damage caused to its vehicles by a section of the agitated public. The Fort police registered cases against 75 people for allegedly vandalising the buses.
Bus Driver held for Rash Driving
T'Puram: The traffic police have arrested a private bus driver for rash driving and verbally abusing other motorists near MC Junction. The accused is S Unnikrishnan, a resident of Thozhikkal, Vizhinjam. Police said the arrest was as per the Collector's order. The incident reportedly occurred around 12.45 pm on the Medical College-Kumarapuram Road when the bus, 'Attukal' created traffic snarls. Eventually, when Medical College superintendent Dr Ramesh intervened, the accused hurled abuses on him. The collector also gave directives on initiating vehicle inspections as part of bringing down the number of accidents. He gave a directive to suspend the driving licences of drivers if they were found to be drunk. Action would be taken against vehicles carrying students without adhering to the guidelines and against autorickshaws which charged exorbitant rates, he said.
Man Held for Forgery
T'Puram: The Valiyathura police on Wednesday arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly forging his date of birth in his passport. The accused is Manu, a native of Mavelikkara. Police said that Manu was booked by the Immigration officials after he landed here from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning. Manu was spotted at the airport under suspicious circumstances. When he was told to show his passport, the date of birth was found to be tampered with. Later, he was handed over to the local police. The accused was later produced before the magistrate and remanded in judicial custody, police said.
