Film: Navagraha (Kannada) Cast: Darshan, Vinod Prabhakar, Shrujan Lokesh, Giri Dinesh, Nagendra Urs, Dharma Keerthi Raj, Tharun Sudhir, Sharmila Mandre, Varsha and Saurav.

Director: Dinakar

It is the second film for director Dinakar. Though Dinakar has succeeded in his maiden venture, the same can not be said about his second film Navagraha.

There is no doubt that his attempt — gathering sons of all villain characters to act in one film — deserves an appreciation.

However, Dinakar fails in handling the megaphone aptly. It would be difficult for those, who happened to watch his maiden film Jothe Jotheyali in which Ramya and Prem were the lead pair, to sit through this film.

The minus point of this film is that Dinakar failed to realise the importance of a police officer character. It is unfortunate that instead of selecting a well-known character artiste for this role, Dinakar opted for Saurav who is yet to prove his mettle at the box office even though he has been acting in films for a quite long time.

Had Dinakara roped in Prakash Rai or even Devaraj, the selection would have an added value for this film.

It is not clear why the two heroines, Sharmila Mandre and Varsha, are in this film. They have nothing to do. Sharmila’s role has no justification. We see her as one of the participants of Bhartanatyam competition.

Later, we come to know that she is hard core member of Darshan’s gang.

Varsha, who acted in the film Nenapirali, is better not to accept this type of insignificant roles in the future if she wanted to remain in Sandalwood. Among the other artistes, Vinod Prabhakar gets prominence in stunt sequences. His fighting skills will be a treat for front-benchers.

Dharma Keerthiraj has a bright future if he takes his profession seriously. Giri Dinesh and Nagendra Urs have to go a long way to establish themselves as artistes in Kannada films.

As far as Darshan’s performance is concerned, his fans might not like it. The reason is that his role is negative. He dies in the climax. There is no scope for him to run around trees. Also the film does not have a strong villain.
