Action queen Malashree's same old formula in Veera

A Sharadhaa

Directed by Ayyappa P Sharma, Veera offers an inside look at a profession seldom featured in Malashree's movies. The patented Malashree formula is reproduced once again in Veera. The screenplay by Ayyappa is again loaded with enough hi-tech jargon. There is nothing much that one can expect from an action queen, who occupies most of the screen space with seven different get ups and some captivating stunts mostly set abroad.

Veera also seems to have some elements of the recent film by Upendra, i.e, politics and corruption, but it is more focused on fake currency notes floating in India and abroad.

A revenge drama, the film is about Veeralakshmi aka Veera (Malashree), a police officer in disguise who lands in Hong Kong. She convinces Bal (Komal) that she is her fiance from India and starts living in his house. Her target is to finish Soma aka RD (Rahul Dev) who is hand in glove with the Home Minister of the State, Chunchungate (CR Simha) in supplying fake currency notes. RD, who lived like a king, slowly faces plenty of hurdles from Veera as she finishes his younger brother and close friend. Veera is supported by the Commissioner Garudachar (Ashish Vidyarthi). Finally Veera and RD face each other when the  former explains why she was aiming to take revenge on him. The rest of the action drama finally concludes with Veera killing the villains in grand style. Here, the suspense has been maintained till the second half with Veera reinventing herself and succeeding in finishing the criminals who had killed her brother during their childhood. This mega budget action extravaganza has very little substance but it sails through its action at a breakneck pace. Palaniraj and Raviverma effectively use the claustrophobic confines of the action drama to keep the tension high.

Most of the talent is wasted or underutilised including Rahul Dev, Mukul Dev, CR Simha and Ashish Vidyarthi. Komal Kumar, who is now quite popular as a hero, has not justified his role; coming out more like a comic character, which was not necessary at a time when he is gaining popularity as a good actor. The comedy between Malashree and Komal does not bring any laughs.

Unfortunately the film drags. Trying to bring in the Hollywood touch in its making, Veera is mildly diverting, and feels like a long trailer. Nothing to boast about Hamsalekha's music, which doesn't add much to the loudness and action in the movie.

The Verdict: This action packed film is purely for front benchers with no exciting storyline.
