The government of India on Saturday extended the ongoing lockdown till June 30 in containment zones. Religious places and places of worship for public; hotels, restaurants and other hospitality services; and shopping malls; will be permitted to open from June 8, the new guideline said.
There has been a relaxation in night curfew too. The movement of individuals will now remain strictly prohibited between 9 pm to 5 am (it was 7 pm- 7 am earlier) throughout the country, except for essential activities.
The home ministry has also lifted restrictions on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods from June 1.
India registered its highest spike of 8,380 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, while 193 more deaths reported. The total number of cases in the country now at 1,82,143 including 89995 active cases, 86984 cured/discharged/migrated and 5164 deaths, as per the latest Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data.

The West Bengal government may have allowed shooting of movies, television serials and web series after a gap of over two months from June 1, but the resumption of actual filming could take a little more time as producers have to chalk out logistics as per new guidelines. It will start as soon as possible, producers and directors said on Sunday. Two Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspectors have died due to COVID-19 since Saturday evening, taking the overall coronavirus casualty figure in the force to three, officials said on Sunday. While a 52-year-old ASI died around 11.30 am Sunday during treatment at the Army Base Hospital here, another officer of the rank passed away at the same facility Saturday evening, they said. Another relaxation was that with immediate effect there will be no restriction on the inter-state movement of persons. No separate permission is required for one to travel into or out of Telangana. This would be a major relaxation since many people are still stranded in Telangana, mainly in Hyderabad, who have applied for transit passes from the police department move to their home states. Now that this restriction has been done away with, they would not have to seek any permission from the state government.
In view of the fresh guidelines issued by the Union home ministry on nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Sunday said that the entire staff will physically attend the office from June 1. Air India has made it mandatory for its pilots and cabin crew members to check and confirm that their pre-flight COVID-19 test results are negative before they operate an aircraft, according to an official communication issued hours after the Delhi-Moscow flight incident involving a pilot on Saturday. An Air India flight from Delhi to Moscow with no passenger on-board was asked to return midway on Saturday after its ground staff realised that one of the pilots of the plane had tested positive for coronavirus but was assigned the duty following an oversight by a team checking pre-flight medical reports of the crew.
Seven returnees from Chennai tested positive for COVID-19 in Nagaland on Sunday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 43, Health and Family Welfare minister S Pangnyu Phom said. The Centre on Saturday said it would arrange special trains to facilitate the return of labourers to their workplaces, following concerns raised by industries regarding shortage of labour hitting production and logistics. (READ MORE)
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday hit out at the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that despite having over 70,000 buses in its fleet, labourers had to walk home amid the COVID-19 lockdown resulting in many deaths. In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said, "Despite lockdown, there has been no decrease in the spread of the disease.
The number of coronavirus cases has crossed the 300-mark in Himachal Pradesh as 18 more cases were reported in the state on Saturday. The total number of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 11,881 and death toll rose to 822, as 284 new COVID-19 patients and 24 fatalities were reported on Saturday, the state health department said. Out of 27 coronavirus deaths in Gujarat during the day, 24 took place in Ahmedabad.
A 1,400-bedded Covid Care Centre for treating coronavirus patients with mild symptoms sans co-morbidities was operationalised here on Saturday, a senior official said. A record single-day spike of 1,163 fresh cases took the COVID-19 tally in Delhi to over 18,000 on Saturday and the death toll due to the disease mounted to 416, authorities said. The previous daily high in fresh cases -- 1,106 -- was recorded on May 29. This is the second consecutive day in Delhi when over 1,100 COVID-19 cases have been reported.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has extended the Coronavirus lockdown by 15 more days to June 15. Chouhan, while interacting with school students via Facebook Live on Saturday evening, announced that his government has decided to extend the lockdown by 15 more days.
The coronavirus related fatalities in Karnataka rose to 49 with the death of a 47-year-old woman while 141 new coronavirus cases were confirmed on Saturday taking the infection tally to 2,922, Karnataka minister S Suresh Kumar said. Among the fresh cases, 90 are inter-state passengers, he told reporters.
