ELURU: The bus bays set up to regulate traffic in the city have proved to be major bottlenecks at some places obstructing the smooth movement of vehicles. With the steady increase in vehicle population in the West Godavari district headquarters town, traffic is becoming increasingly chaotic during peak hours.

According to an estimate, there are 50,000 vehicles, including cars, autos and two-wheelers in the city now. The bus bay at the Fire Station Centre has become an accident-prone spot. Traffic DSP Avula Srinivasa Rao said: “The traffic impediment due to setting up of the bus bay at the Fire Station Centre has come to our notice. We are planning to shift the bus bay.”
