Unmaad 2017 kicks off to loud cheers and excitement

BENGALURU: Loud cheers and a huge gathering of students marked the opening day of Unmaad 2017 at the IIMB campus. The annual festival is being hosted by the institute until Jauary 29 and will see a participation of over 200 colleges across the country and is expecting a foot fall of close to 25,000 students. The festival, which hosts various competitions, is a platform for students to showcase their talents, skills and there by foster team spirit and build a healthy competition between other students.

It also features events such as dramatics, music, dance, quiz, debate, street play, professional concerts and the much-awaited ‘Unmaad fashion show‘ among many others, with prizes worth `11.5+ Lakh at stake. Students are excited about participating in the festival organised by the institute. “We are making creative products from waste materials for a competition. It is very challenging, but it is also interesting to work in a group,” says Indrajith Mammilla, a student from KLE University Vijayawada.

“All the events are really exciting. We are really enjoying the festival. It gives us an opportunity to deal with different situations,” says Vivek N, a student from Christ University. It took around eight months for the IIMB students to organise the event. “The last three months we worked really hard to make the festival a success. We have around 150 volunteers and 50 core team members to organise the event,” says Naveen Kumar, Cultural Secretary, IIMB. Abishek Ghosh, a first year Post Graduate Diploma Management student, says that the festival gives them a first-hand experience on how to organise big events, which is of use for their future projects.

The festival hosts 40 events in various categories such as dance, drama, fashion, adventurous events, digital and cooking competition among others. Celebrities are set to perform on the closing day. To cater to food lovers, the Food Village at the event will feature more than a dozen stalls to appeal to the foodies. Under the CSR initiative, the students of IIM Bangalore have partnered with Gift Your Organ foundation and Apollo Hospitals as part of their nation-wide Organ Donation Drive. So far 50 students have pledged to donate their organs.
