DUBAI: UAE's environment and water ministry issued new rules for importing eggs from Asian countries as part of its food security measures, it was announced Monday.

As per the rules, the importer should obtain a pre-permit of import from the ministry. The consignment should be accompanied by documents of hatching that includes the certificate of origin issued by the competent authority and valid health certificate issued by a state authority and attested by the UAE embassy in the exporting country.

The furnished data should contain the names and addresses of the exporter and importer. The accompanying statement should also show that the hatcheries have been tested and the birds are free from epidemic diseases and infections, such as bird flu.

The new conditions also stipulated that the eggs should have been sterilized according to the animal health code system of the World Organization for Animal Health.
