Petrol price up, diesel next

Express News Service

Now pay Rs 1.82 per litre more for petrol. This is the third increase this month and was triggered by a falling rupee making import of crude oil costlier. An increase in diesel rates is expected early next week.

Oil companies raised petrol rates by Rs 1.82 a litre, excluding local sales tax or Value Added Tax (VAT), with effect from Friday midnight. The actual increase will be higher and will vary from city to city depending on local taxes. Oil firms had on June 1 raised petrol prices by 75 paise, excluding VAT and followed it with a Rs 2 per litre increase on June 16.

The new rates were supposed to come into effect from Sunday in line with changing cost of petrol every fortnight. Instead, it was raised on Friday. Diesel price too is likely to be raised by 40-50 paise per litre early next week in accordance with the Government mandate for small doses of increases every month.
