Express News Service

BENGALURU: The growing economic disparity in the country is set to become more evident as India is expected to witness the fastest growth in the number of billionaires by 2024 and move up one place to 19th place, according to a report by independent global property consultant Knight Frank. However, over the next decade, the US, Russia and China  will have  more billionaires than India. “Wealth creation in India is expected to accelerate with the number of Ultra high net worth individuals (UHNWIs) expected to double over the next decade,” Shishir Baijal, CMD, Knight Frank India, said.  Mumbai will see the fastest rise in UNHWI followed by Delhi and Hyderabad. The top 6 cities’ contribution of billionaires will rise to 68% by 2024 from the current 58%, it said. “At 0.1 UHNWI per lakh population, India ranks 84 among 97 countries globally in terms of equitable distribution of wealth. The concentration of wealthy Indians also extends geographically as the top 6 cities contribute 58% of the number of UHNWIs, which is likely to accelerate to 68% in the next 10 years,” Samantak Das, Chief Economist & Director, Research at the firm.
