Union Budget 2017 beneficial for farmers and poor, says PM Modi

The Prime Minister also said that the merger of the railway budget with the general budget will give an impetus to the transport sector's growth.

NEW DELHI: Appreciating the budget presented by the finance minister in the Lok Sabha, prime minister Narendra Modi said that the budget is an 'Uttam' Budget, devoted to strengthening the hands of the poor.

Speaking after the budget, PM Modi said that the merger of the railway budget with the general budget will give an impetus to the transport sector's growth.

Attributing his government budget to the farmer, the prime minister said that the "aim of the government is to double the income of farmers. This budget is yet again devoted to the well-being of the villages, farmers and the poor," PM added.

While giving special emphasis on  the women empowerment, PM said: "This is a Budget for the future- for farmers, underprivileged, transparency, urban rejuvenation, rural development, enterprise."

PM also maintained that the budget will help small businesses to become competitive in the global market by adding that the housing sector stands to gain immensely from the budget.

"This Budget will help small businesses to become competitive in the global market.The commitment to eliminate corruption and black money is reflected in the Budget,” PM further said.
