KM Chaitanya, who earned name and fame with his debut film Aa Dinagalu two years ago, is now busy with his second film Suryakanti. The film’s muhurat function was held at Dharmaguruji Manjunathaswamy Temple recently.

Renown theatre personality Girish Karnad sounded the clap board while Jayamala, president, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, switched the camera on. Murugadas, who directed Tamil film Ghajani directed the first shot of Suryakanti.

Chethan, who played the hero in the box-office hit Aa Dinagalu, is the hero in Suryakanti, while Tamil film actress Regina makes her debut with this film in Sandalwood. The film’s shooting is expected to be held in Bangalore, Belgaum, Goa and Uzbekistan. Music maestro Ilayaraja has agreed to compose music for the film.

Speaking to the Express, director Chaitanya expressed his confidence in this film, which would cater to any audience. “The film is a love story laced with a bit of fantasy. Script writer KY Narayanaswamy took a lot of care while writing the script.” He added,“My well-wisher Girish Karnad sir has also contributed valuable inputs to the script.’’ On being asked why he had selected Chethan as the hero, Chaitanya said,“He is a good artiste. This film has all ingredients, which will help to showcase his acting skills. I’m confident that he will not let me down.’’ Chethan’s recent film Birugaali bombed at the box office. Chaitanya commented on this, “While making the script, I was not aware of what had happened to Birugaali. I selected Chethan since he suits the script.’’ Chaitanya was impressed by Regina’s bubbly nature. He said,“As far as speaking or understanding Kannada language is concerned, I hope she will learn Kannada quickly. She has a lot of potential and learning Kannada might not be a big hassle for Regina,’’ added Chaitanya.
