BANGALORE: The government will bear the expenditure for people undergoing eye operation at Minto Ophthalmic Hospital under the Yashaswini scheme, Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gowda announced on Tuesday .

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Yashaswini scheme at Minto Ophthalmic Hospital. He added, “Government hospitals should compete with private hospitals and Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology has given ample reason to prove that even government hospitals have all the capability to provide facilities equal to its private counterparts. If need arises, the government is ready to provide all its support.” “It is the responsibility of doctors to provide confidence to their patients; this way the patients too will get the feel-good factor,” he said .

The renovated OPD block includes fully equipped six examination chambers, equipment such as auto refractometer, YAG Laser and flash autoclave, used for sterilizing instruments used in ultrasound examination of anterior segment and laser treatment of glaucoma, etc., dedicated by the National Programme for Control of Blindness, was also inaugurated .

“About Rs 14 crore had been sanctioned for the development project at the hospital .

With first phase being completed, we are yet to begin with the second phase and we seek the help from government,” said Dr Shree Prakash, medical superintendent, Minto Ophthalmic Hospital.
