BANGALORE: A 16-year-old girl, Sunanda M Kondagal, became the 20th swine flu victim in the state. The girl died of the H1N1 virus on August 25. According to the health department, the patient was admitted to the Al-Ameen Medical College BLDE Hospital, Bijapur.

Her report came on August 27.

In addition, 20 fresh cases of H1N1 were reported in Bangalore. One Uma Devi, a confirmed H1N1 patient undergoing treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) was discharged on August 27.

Meanwhile, the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bangalore has also initiated screening facilities of H1N1 patients on Thursday.

The hospital has set up separate wards for male and female patients comprising 18 beds in each ward. Dr S Rajanna, resident medical officer told Express, “All the patients with flu like symptoms would be screened in the separate out-patient department of the hospital.

Nearly four microbiologists have been deputed for carrying out screening and collecting throat and nasal swabs.’’ Screening will be done between 9 am and 5 pm.

“On the very first day, the hospital registered more than 30 suspected patients,’’ Rajanna added.
