Country’s first military memorial in Bangalore

The foundation stone for the National Military Memorial in Bangalore was laid by Governor Rameshwar Thakur.

BANGALORE: To honour the sacrifice and depict the indomitable fortitude, valour and bravery of the heroes of Indian armed forces, the foundation stone for the National Military Memorial was laid by Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Tuesday.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said, “The memorial will serve as a beacon of inspiration to the young generation.

They should be aware of the values of national service, besides be committed to the idea of a strong, progressive and united India.” An underground museum and motivation hall would be constructed to record the history of bravery and encourage the future generations to emulate it. The memorial would be a landscape concept based on greenery.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, chairman of National Military Memorial Committee said, “The state has produced brave soldiers and through this, people of Karnataka will give their thanks for their contributions to the country.” Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju, Chief of Naval staff, Admiral Suresh Mehta, Air Chief Marshal F H Major, the Chief of Air staff and Lt Gen Noble Thamburaj, Vice Chief of Army staff were also present at the ceremony.
