BELGAUM: The body of former union minister and senior Congress leader B Shankaranand, who died here on Friday, was laid to rest at his native village Kanagala with full state honours. The body was laid in the ‘Samadhi’ that was constructed by Shankaranand himself in 2001.

The venue has four Samadhis including Shankaranand’s parents Baburao and Ambakka and his wife Kamaladevi.

The swamijis of Nidasosi Mutt, Hukkeri Mutt, Chalawadi Mutt and Chikkodi Mutt attended the funeral. Shankaranand’s body was brought to the Samadhi venue in a vehicle from his residence at Kanagala.

The police fired 21 rounds in the air.

Union Minister KH Muniyappa, Legislative Council C hairman Veeranna Mattikatti, KPCC president RV Deshpande, Minister for Horticulture Umesh Katti, former minister HK Patil and MP Prabhakar Kore paid homage to the departed leader.
