BANGALORE: A 60-year-old man was arrested by the CCB sleuths for allegedly cheating people by posing as the secretary of the chief minister and promising them tender contracts. He had taken lakhs of rupees from them.

Following three similar complaints at Halasuru police station, CCB sleuths arrested V Chandrashekar, a resident of Nagarabhavi and recovered a Mercedes Benz car and four mobile phones from him.

CCB police said that the accused had spoken to Rahul Bhatia, the CEO of a Rajasthan- based company AB Impex over phone and said that he was the personal secretary of the CM and that he wanted Rahul to take up the project of providing wash basins and granite shelves for apartments for ministers.

Chandrashekar had promised to get Rahul the tender and had taken Rs 1.23 lakh from him. Similarly, he had cheated Delhi-based firm Freecom Tradings in which he promised the owner Shaktivelu to get the order for supply of matchboxes for slums and took Rs 65,000 from him. In yet another case, Phaneshwara of Jaipur-based GS Enterprises was cheated of Rs 34,600 by Chandreshekar who promised to get him the order for supplying handicrafts to Karnataka government. Every time Chandrashekar made calls to these companies, he claimed to be the personal secretary, principal secretary or under secretary in charge of tenders.
