Meet Raj K Purohit, a gregarious lad from Belgaum, who wants to prove his mettle in Sandalwood. He is from a family that is known for Purohit Sweets in Belgaum. His tryst with theatre began during school days. ‘’I had participated in many cultural programmes during my high school days in Belgaum. It helped me to deliver my best without any hassles,’’ says Purohit.
He even worked with Nadira Babbar, a well-known theatre artiste in Mumbai. His destiny changed when director Prakash Jha spotted him on the stage. "I was doing a play directed by Nadira. He not only appreciated my acting but gave me the chance to act in Hindi film Dhil Kya Karege. It was a wonderful experience for me,’’ recalls Purohit.
Later, he got an opportunity to act in Shikar in which Shahid Kapur played the lead role. Then followed Anch in which Paresh Rawal and Nana Patekar played the key roles.
He has also acted in a tele serial Ardhangi on DD1. ‘’Parikshit Sahani and Vidya Sinha played my parents in Ardhangi. I have learnt a lot from them. They gave me some valuable tips on acting,’’ he recalls.
Now, he has decided to establish himself as an actor in Sandalwood. He played the negative role in Kannada film Karthik. "I want to do something for Sandalwood since I am a Kannadiga,’’ he affirms.
Purohit got the chance to act in Tamil film Kalyana Parisu in which another Kannada actor Naga Kiran played the lead role. "I’m looking forward to one more Tamil film that I’ve signed,’’ he reveals.
