BANGALORE: The state government will establish two labour multiskill and research centres at a cost of over `72 crore each at Bagalagunte in Bangalore Urban district and another at Gulbarga, state Labour Minister B N Bachegowda informed.

He addressed newsmen Monday after chairing the state Labour Welfare Council meet here on Monday, that land for two training centres for labourers have been identified, for which the state and Central governments will share the cost equally at `36 each. "Union Minister for Labour Mallikarjun Kharge had shown keen interest in establishing these units," he said.

The department will build community centres at Bijapur, Gadag, Bapuji Nagar (Bangalore), Bidar, Hoskote and Peenya at a cost of `7 crore. He said that the Council which met on Monday also decided to enhance the salary limit for each employee to `10,000 per month to facilitate their children to get scholarship from `5,000.

He said that following government's decision to enhance the monthly contribution towards the Corpus money to the council from `3 to `6 (Employee), `6 to `12 (Employer) and `6 to `12 (Government) resulted in increase in the fund to `20 crore.

Over 2.92 crore labourers are working in the unorganised sector while another 8 lakh are in organised sector. It was decided to enhance student scholarship from `1,000 to `2,500. It was also decided to enhance the incentive scholorship being paid to both SSLC and PUC students from labors community from the present `1,000 to `1,500. "Those students who would score 70 per cent and more would be eligible to get the benefit," he said.

He said that the council also decided to enhance the allowance to be payable to labourers in the event of their death to meet the expenses of last rites from `4,000 to `5,000. Reimbursement of medical expenses also hiked from `1,000 to `10,000 per annum, impart computer education to children of labourers, loan facility to purchase artificial limbs and other instruments to the physically handicapped persons and financial assistance to promote sport activities to the registered labour unions.

Due to nonutilisation of funds the maximum limit of amount payable to patients suffering from cancer, open heart surgery and kidney transplantation is `10,000 to `5,000.
