BANGALORE:  Former don, writer and critic Agni Sridhar lashed out at Kannada writer S L Bhyrappa. At an event held by Samata Sainik Dal to felicitate Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekhar Kambar, Sridhar said, “Bhyrappa does not deserve a Jnanpith Award. One must look at how humane a writer’s works are. While his writings may talk about dharma and spirituality, they are highly communal,” and  praised Kambar’s left-styled writing. “Bhyrappa says that Muslims and Christians are oppressive. But not all religions are perfect. A true writer has to go beyond the bounds of religion,” he said, adding that someone like Prof Kambar realises the significance of literature.
