BANGALORE: In an effort to make historical records accessible to the public, the Karnataka State Archives opened an exhibition of            rare historical documents at the Mythic Society here               on Friday.

The aim of the exhibition is to spread information and create awareness about historical records and to draw the attention of scholars and other hobbyists.

Some of the documents displayed at the exhibition include correspondence letters related to the 1920 Dasara programme and those of Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to Mysore.  Other documents list protocol for palace functions and also a letter by Raja Ravi Varma written in 1906, confirming dispatch of three paintings by him as requested by the Maharaja of Mysore and a request for photographs of the same. Also on display at the venue, is a desk put up by Mr Renganathan of Photolam Systems to demonstrate the process of archiving to interested scholars.

At a programme held on Friday, O Anantha Ramaiah, former Vice Chancellor of Tumkur university also launched a book titled ‘A guide to the records’ intended to be a source of information about the archives.

Sudhakar Shetty, Deputy Secretary and Shastri,            President, Mythic Society were also present on the occasion. The exhibition willbe open today.
