Known as the biggest planned extension in Southeast Asia, the Cosmopolitan Club in Jayanagar defines the holistic nature of a club.
Established in 1970 by an IAS officer, CJ Padmanabhan, the club is built in an area of 70,000 sq.ft. and has four blocks - Down Town Block, Club House Block, Bowling Alley block and Annex Block.
These blocks provide a combination of sports, amusements, personal dining, guest rooms, party halls and more.
Membership: The current President is Dr BL Ramamurthy and unlike other clubs, the Cosmopolitan Club is managed by the Administrative Secretary - ANK Raju. Getting a membership at the club is a status symbol and graduation is mandatory. The permanent membership costs around Rs 10 lakh with an advantage of two children of the member getting free membership.
The club offers memberships to corporates, service members and senior officials in the rank of IAS and IPS. The administration of the club, managed by the executive committee, is elected once in two years.
Currently the club has 1200 permanent members with 1800 children quota and 200 corporate and service executives. There is an interview process where committee members meet prospective members. These memberships entitle the corporate member and his immediate family to avail the club facilities along with occasional guests.
As of today, they are 11 board members including the President and the Secretary.
The tagline of the club is apt- ‘Just like you dream it’ and offers a range of facilities for children above 11 to the senior most member.
Sports and recreation
* Pool: The club has a swimming pool with top quality materials from Italy and Spain. Supervision by an expert swimming coach is available.
* Tennis: Tennis court situated at the Club House has three courts with floodlights. Regular coaching classes are conducted by well trained coaches.
* Shuttle: There are two indoor shuttle courts with wooden flooring and daynight illumination. A spacious Billiards room with adequate seating arrangements is also available.
* Bowling: Another attraction of the club is Amoeba Bowling alley. There are 12 lanes in this bowling alley out of which 4 are reserved for the club members.
* Card room: The club also has the best card room in the city with cozy interiors. There are 15 cards tables which can be used by members and their family.
* Health club: Equipped with imported fitness equipments, the health club has treadmills, multi-gym equipments, cycling and slimming equipments, weights etc. The club has separate section for members only. Also available is a separate yoga and aerobic centre with expert trainers.
* Beauty & spa: De’Glam, the beauty parlour situated inside the club is attached with ayurvedic and allopathy treatment of massage with sauna, steam and Jacuzzi. The sports activities are open from morning 5.30 am to 9.30 pm while the cards section is open from 7 pm to 10 pm.
* Guest rooms : Thirteen well-furnished guest rooms are available. Eight guest rooms are located on the 3rd floor of the extension building with 5-star facilities. Five guest rooms are located on the 2nd floor of Down Town Building with 3-star facilities.
* Bar and restaurant: The club provides good drinking and dining options. There are four Bar/Restaurant sections in Down Town Building and two in Club House Building. A roof garden with bar and restaurant is on the roof top of the Club House. It is open from 7 pm to 11 pm on all days. The bar lounge located on the first floor of the Down Town block is exclusively reserved for members. Another lounge Pavilion Lounge was added for members recently to enjoy their evenings.It is open from 11 am to 3 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm on all days. The club also offers a fine dining experience with Subz, a pure vegetarian and Three Quarter Chinese restaurant, which serves authentic Chinese cuisine.
* Kids paradise : The club also has a play area for children of all ages. There are lot of amusement options to entertain the children.
* Party and conference halls : The conference hall can accommodate approximately 75 to 100 people. A mini-party hall is also available for 25 - 30 people.
* Travel house : Vacation Exotica is the travel agency providing solutions to meet the travel requirements of members. Special discounts are provided up to 5 per cent of the cost on all travel packages.
* Walk-in library : A library with more than 4000 titles, mostly in Kannada and English languages, is provided.It is open on all days from 10.30 am to 8.30 pm.
* Parking facilities : Ample parking space is available for about 90 cars and 50 two-wheelers.
* Mini theatre: The club has a mini theatre, which is located in the Club House building with a seating capacity of 100 people with Blue Screen facility. Multi-lingual movies are screened on rotation basis on all the days in a month. It is extensively used by the members.There is only one show every day starting at 6.30 pm with no entry fee.
* Cultural activities: The club hosts a number of events featuring national and international artistes.Professional event managers are hired for all the events conducted. Christmas, New Year’s party, Bar Nite, Kannada Rajyotsava and Club Day are an yearly feature.
* Social responsibility: The highlight of this club is the Corpus Fund Trust. Twenty per cent of its profit goes for a social cause. Around Rs 1.25 crore is released every year for education/ medical needs to staff members of the club,to the poor local people of Jayanagar and for children who need some assistance in sports.
