An elderly woman was allegedly murdered and her two sisters attacked by a plumber at their home in Jayanagar VII Block on Monday morning. Going by the circumstantial evidence, police said it was a case of murder for gain.
The deceased has been identified as Chandra Narasimhan (76). Her sisters Munilakshmamma (88) and Sharada (78), who were also robbed by the killer, have been hospitalised and are in a state of shock.
Police said the three women and Chandra’s daughter Dr Chitra N, a paediatrician at Jayadeva Hospital, were living in the house located next to Ayyappa Swamy Temple on 27th Cross. The house had some repairs and plumber Ramu alias Ramachandra, who was known to the family for six years, had been working there for the last 10 days.
“On Monday morning, Ramu had come for work after Chitra left for the hospital. He took Munilakshmamma and Sharada to the first floor on the pretext of showing them the work. There he allegedly snatched Sharada’s jewels and locked her up in a room. He then tried to take away Munilakshmamma’s valuables. After a tussle, Munilakshmamma fell unconscious and Ramu took away her valuables. Later, he went to the ground floor and strangulated Chandra. He escaped with ear rings, chains and bangles worn by the three women,” the police said.
“The incident happened around 11.30 am but came to light when Munilakshmamma gained consciousness around 1 pm. She came to the ground floor and found her sister lying dead and then informed Dr Chitra. Later, the police was alerted. The accused also searched for other valuables in the cupboard,” DCP (South) H S Revanna said, expressing confidence that the accused would be caught.
