'Curb bias in KPSC selections'

Express News Service

A gathering of various non-governmental organisations on Wednesday demanded that a person of unimpeachable ethics be posted as the head of the Karnataka Public Service Commission, to curb what they claimed were rising instances of favouritism in the selection process.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Thyagaraj Varthur of Karnataka Graduates Youth Forum said, “The KPSC decisions cannot be questioned by the state government as it is in the hands of the Centre. However, some people in the Vidhana Soudha are mediating on behalf of candidates and manipulating the selection process. We want the process to be made transparent to avoid this.”

Besides the appointment of an eminent ethical head, the forum is also demanding that interviews be videotaped and made available for verification whenever required. “If there is a video of the process, any questions or allegations can be dealt with instantly. We also believe that allotting 200 marks for the interview process is not a good decision since this makes way for manipulation,” Varthur added.

The forum also demanded that a prominent member of the public or the opposition party be allowed to take part in the interview process.
