The previous BJP government had extended the leasing period of 4.21 acres of BBMP’s land near Cox Town to Indian Gymkhana Club for a period of 35 years, the Legislative Council was informed on Monday.

In response to a calling attention motion by Basavaraj Horatti of JD(S), CM Siddaramaiah, in a written reply, stated the land, worth over `500 crore, had been leased out for the benefit of the citizens living in and around Cox Town for just `60,000 per annum per acre with a condition to enhance it by 15 per cent every three years, he said.

“The BBMP earlier had rejected land grant, but it was overruled by CM B S Yeddyurappa,” he said.

Horatti also expressed doubts over Yeddyurappa’s signature in the records. Another member M C Nanaiah said Yeddyurappa’s signature had been shown as ‘Dr B S’, which was unusual’, and sought an enquiry into the case. The debate ended when the House Leader S R Patil said that a Cabinet meeting, chaired by Yeddyurappa, had taken that decision.
