Close to six years after he submitted a report which unearthed illegal occupation/sale of around 40,000 acres of government land in the city worth Rs 50,000 crore, A T Ramaswamy, who headed the Joint Legislature Committee, on Thursday criticised the state government for inaction.
Speaking at a meeting organised by the Human Rights Forum for Dalit Liberation (HRDFL-K) in the city, Ramaswamy said the government had consistently failed to act upon the recommendations made in his report against the land mafia and was instead just targeting poor people who had occupied government land within forests in order to survive.
“Poor people are being chased out from forests and other reserved areas. They need land for living purpose and this is a wrong move,” he said.
Ramaswamy urged the gathering and other organisations to take up protests demanding implementation of the report by the newly elected Congress government.
“I have presented the report to earlier Chief Ministers, the Governor and anyone else who would listen. I shall present it to Siddaramaiah also,” he said.
