Time and again, a number of citizens have complained about the narrow road and sidewalks that can hardly be called a footpath on the Sanjaynagar Main Road. Over the years, Sanjaynagar has grown leaps and bounds. Initially, a quiet neighbourhood with independent houses; a lot of multi-storey apartments and commercial buildings have come up today. The traffic on the road too has increased.
Residents in the locality find it extremely difficult to walk on the road as there is no proper footpath and even if there is, it has been encroached by hawkers.
A resident of Sanjaynagar, Ashok, said, “Gone are those days when I could peacefully walk to the nearby grocery store without having the fear of being run over by a bus. The road has become so crowded and the lack of proper footpaths forces us to walk on the road. And in most places the footpaths have been encroached by hawkers. The City Corporation should look into it and make provision for widening this road which should have happened a long time ago.”
Another resident, a housewife, said, “I have two kids who walk to school on that road every day. They complain about the traffic and lack of proper footpaths for them to walk on. Until they come back home, I cannot sit peacefully. I hope something is done about it.” Krishna, a driver, who lives in the nearby locality said, “The road is so narrow and on top of it, it is a bus route; when two buses try and pass each other, the whole road gets jammed.”
When City Express got in touch with Sanjaynagar Corporator, Krishnamurthy, he said, “The road is narrow and there is no space to make the footpaths wider. So far there has been no talks about widening the road. About the encroachment, in the past, we had managed to clear it up but they have come back again, we will make sure something is done about it soon.”
