Express News Service

BANGALORE: The city police have booked Shivarama Reddy and Narayan, who were facing rape charges, under the Goonda Act.

The accused Shivarama Reddy alias Shiva, resident of Avalahalli, and Narayana alias Nani of Hosakerehalli, were arrested under the provisions of Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goonda, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum Grabbers, Video or Audio Pirates Act, 1985.

Police said Reddy, who was involved in sexual offences, extortion, robbery, etc in several police station limits here, used to barge into ladies’ rooms in paying guest accommodations and molest women before robbing them.

On June 6, Reddy barged into a ladies PG accommodation at Doddathogur in Electronics City and raped a software engineer before robbing her. A rowdy sheet exists against him in the Electronic City Police Station. Therefore, to prevent his criminal activities and with a view to preclude him from acting in any manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order, he is booked under the Goonda Act as per the order of the commissioner of police, the police said.

In another case, the accused Narayana, who is also a habitual offender, kidnapped a minor girl from Satellite Bus Station on Mysore Road in an auto rickshaw and took her to his house in Girinagar, where he molested her and threatened her not to disclose the act. The incident was reported on June 20 and Girinagar police arrested him. A rowdy sheet was opened against him in Hanumanthanagar police station earlier in May 2012. He is now booked under the Goonda Act.

Meanwhile Fraser Town police said a gang of five accused, who allegedly kidnapped a 22-year-old student and raped her in a car, will also be booked under the Goonda Act.
