Town Hall to Get Facelift

The Mayor said the building will be renamed as Puttanna Shetty Hall after the refurbishing and a statue of the former city municipality president will be unveiled.

BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will complete revamping the Town Hall in three months at a cost of `5 crore, said Mayor B S Sathyanarayana after laying the foundation for works on Wednesday.

The structure was last given a facelift 23 years ago.  Better seating arrangements, air-conditioning and lighting and sound systems are part of the renovation.

The Mayor said the building will be renamed as Puttanna Shetty Hall after the refurbishing and a statue of the former city municipality president will be unveiled.

The change in name comes after P S Vishwanath said his grandfather’s real name is Puttanna Shetty.

Land to construct the hall was given by Shetty and construction began in 1933. The building was inaugurated by the Prince of Mysore Kanteerava Narasimharaja Wodeyar two years later. The building is said to have  cost `1.75 lakh then.
