On International Women’s Day, organisations and individuals in the city are holding various events to raise awareness on the United Nations’ theme for the day this year, ‘Equality for women is progress for all’.

On Friday, students of Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology reached out to women inmates at Parappana Agrahara prison. Jigna Shah from Vogue, who organised the event, said, “Students  have been teaching the inmates to make jewellery and knit.”

Arzoo Nagraik, a final year student of BSc - Fashion and Apparel Designing, said she only had an outsider’s perspective of the prison before the celebration on Friday.

“It’s not their fault they are in jail. Their life is devoid of normalcy and entertainment. This is only a small way to make them feel good about themselves,” she added.
