Actor-comedian Komal is gung-ho about his next film, Karodpathi, as one of the song sequence Sarasake bare Sarala gives him that extra edge, even before the release of this flick, which the actor says, was not planned. "I was under the assumption that there will be no such hits after Pyaarge Agbityathe from Govindaya
namaha. To my surprise, Sarasake...has become a major hit than Pyaar.., which is quite a peculiar number done in retro style. The song sequence sees me in six get ups."
Thanks to my makeup man Hanumanthu who put me in those get ups, with the limited resources available. Today, the song has been heard by 8.5 lakh viewers on Youtube even before the release of the film," says Komal. "Though I don't have any knowledge of music, I still interact with music directors and lyricists on how I can visualise a song," he adds.
There is more than music which one can expect from Karodpathi, says Komal. "I am 97 films old but till date, I have been looking for different roles only to break the monotony. This film sees me in the role of a ragpicker who all of a sudden gets lot of money. Basically, a rags to riches story, the hero still has his weaknesses, of haunting his favourite spots and sticking to his old habits."
Despite being a hero, Komal says he has never taken comedy for granted or become overconfident as an actor. "Sometimes, the situation itself gives a comical touch. However, subtle comedy is not understood by the audience and that has created problems for me at times. My approach is always genuine.
Otherwise, I wouldn't exist in this industry. I am glad that my films have a good TRP on whichever channel it is telecast. Though each one's liking is different, I am still tracked on social networking sites, DVDs, fan from abroad and of course, on the big screen," he says.
As a comedian turned hero, people pay attention when Komal is on screen. Personally, what kind of movies do actors like to watch in their free moments? "Only entertainment movies," says Komal and further adds, "I will not watch any other movie because I don't learn anything out of it. For my genre, even Lunch Box is entertainment. For many, the meaning of comedy is, you should laugh continuously, however, it should actually be in parts to form a complete entertainment film, says Komal.
Unlike other heroes, Komal is neither handsome nor garners attention with his body build up.
"Shahrukh doesn't have a good personality. Rajinikanth too has no great looks but his persona attracts when he comes on screen. 6 pack to 8 pack heroes are seen struggling today. I am fat because of my thyroid problem, I have put on weight. My lower back problem does not allow me to exercise much and I am scared to undergo any operation. Presently, I have found Akshar Guruji, who is treating my problem with power yoga. I have lost around nine kgs, which is a big thing for me.
But Guruji has taken up another challenge, for me to loose another 25 kgs. Therefore, in the coming days, you will see a leaner Komal," he says confidently.
