Boy Drowns in Swimming Pool in HSR Layout

BENGALURU:A 11-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool located in an apartment complex on Sarjapur Road in HSR Layout on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Siddharth, son of software engineer Jayaprakash Nambiyar and private school teacher Preethi. Siddharth was studying in  Class 5 in a private school near his house.

According to police, the incident took place around 2.30 pm. When Siddharth and a few children from the neighbourhood were swimming in the pool at Purva Sunshine Apartment, the boy’s hand was sucked into the pool’s water circulation duct. The children who noticed it tried to rescue him by alerting residents, who jumped into the pool and managed to get him out. They immediately rushed Siddharth to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

HSR Layout police registered a case of negligence against the building’s owner and maintenance staff.

21-year-old Drowns in Open Well

A 21-year-old youth who had gone swimming drowned in an open well at Jakkur near Raitara Sante in Yelahanka on Thursday.

Police said the deceased, Vikram from Yelahanka, had gone to the well with three friends on Thursday evening. Vikram did not know how to swim and was using a thermocol sheet to stay afloat. But the sheet broke and he drowned, with his friends noticing what had happened too late. Fire and emergency services personnel fished out Vikram’s body on Friday.
