Express News Service

BENGALURU: Jnanabharathi police have arrested actor and producer ‘Huccha’ Venkat on Friday for allegedly making derogatory remarks on Dr B R Ambedkar. He was remanded to judicial custody till December 4.

A senior police officer said a group of students had filed a case alleging that Venkat had made derogatory remarks against Ambedkar while interacting with a regional news channel on November 18.

The students also staged a protest demanding action against the TV channel anchor for allegedly provoking Venkat to make such statements.

Jnanabharathi police, who arrested Venkat, produced him before a court, where he told the judge that he was mentally disturbed and had made such a statement.

A notice has been issued to the anchor to appear before the police.

Meanwhile, a Dalit organisation also filed a case against Venkat over his remarks.
