PU Lecturers Got Salary Hikes at Regular Intervals

Their salaries were last revised in 2012.

BENGALURU:  Members of the Karnataka State PU Colleges Lectures Association (KSPCLA) were on protest for 15 days by boycotting evaluation work, claiming that their salaries have not been increased for the last twenty years. But documents available with the Department of Pre-University Education show they have got increments regularly since 1972.

In 1972, the basic salary (BS) of lecturers was Rs 300 (for those with less work experience) and Rs 700 (for those with good work experience). Lecturers’ salaries were revised last in 2012 and their basic salary was scaled up to Rs 22,800 (less experience) and Rs 43,200 (good experience).   Lecturers in Bengaluru gets 30 pc of their basic salary as house rent allowance (HRA) while lectures in Tier-II cities get 20 pc as HRA. Those residing in rural areas get 10 pc. They also get daily allowance, city compensatory allowance and special allowance.

The lecturers even get medical insurance cover of Rs 8 lakh which includes the spouse and children.

KSPCLA has been demanding an increase of basic from Rs 22,800 to Rs 26,000 based on the Kumar Nayak Report.
