CHENNAI: The southern bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) extended the interim stay granted against the controversial steel flyover project in Bengaluru till December 20.

Despite Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) filing a petition to vacate the stay, the authority did not file any reply in the case.

Bengaluru-based NGO Citizen Action Forum filed petition against the project on October 28 following which the tribunal  granted interim injunction.

On Friday, Abshot Layout Residents Association represented by its vice-president A Feroz Ahmed impleaded into the case supporting the original petitioner’s contention. The green bench, however postponed the matter to December 20.

The Rs1,791 crore proposal to build a steel flyover from the Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal  has come under criticism from various sections of society including retired bureaucrats in Karnataka.

The petitioners, including a retired bureaucrat, questioned the project proposal arguing that BDA had planned to proceed with the project without holding mandatory public hearings or obtaining necessary environmental clearances.
