BENGALURU: Sangeetha Mehrotra’s day starts as early as at 2.45am. Living alone in her home in RT Nagar, the 50-year-old woman finds happiness and spends many merry hours in the company of her six golden retrievers.

Her day begins with a stroll, along with her dogs, near her home. From 4am to 6am, she prays. At 6.30am, the seven of them set out for Cubbon Park. Here she practises yoga and the dogs spend their time playing and lounging about. “I do 108 Suryanamaskars and recite Hanuman Chalisa twice, standing on one leg each,” she says.

After spending some time playing with her pets at the park, they return home. She purchases grocery on the way. At 11am, she feeds the dogs.

Animal lover since childhood, Sangeetha adopted rabbits, cats and dogs while she was studying. She adopted a dachshund puppy, and two golden retrievers joined her later. She now has six golden retrievers whom she says are “intelligent, sensitive and loving.”

“My father was a central government employee. I got an opportunity to study in places like New Delhi, Afghanistan and Hyderabad. After completing my diploma in catering and food technology, I worked in the industry till 1997. I had to quit my job to complete the construction of my house in Bengaluru where I live right now,” she informs.

On a vow of silence for over ten years, she converses only through texts. Asked how does she communicate with her dogs, she says, “It is not difficult to communicate with them. They understand situations and act accordingly.”

Her day with her furry friends ends with dinner and some television programmes that help her relax. By 9pm,  they prepare themselves to sleep.
