BENGALURU: The traffic mess around Kalasipalyam in the heart of the city will ease soon, said Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy. He was speaking after inaugurating Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s new passenger amenity centre at Yelahanka on Sunday.
“The proposal on constructing a new passenger amenity centre at Kalasipalyam is being considered and the estimated cost of the project is around `50 crore. The tender process is under consideration and will be floated soon,” said Reddy.
Many buses, including private ones, ply from Kalasipalyam bus stand. However, due to poor management and buses stopping in the middle of the road to pick up passengers, traffic snarls have become commonplace. The passenger amenity centre will help ease the traffic flow, he added. The new passenger amenity centre for bus passengers at Yelahanka is spread over one acre and is constructed at a cost of `12.50 crore. The centre will have separate toilets for men and women and will also cater to other needs of the passengers.
The centre has 26,468 sqft of parking space for both cars and two-wheelers in the basement. It also has three bus bays, a traffic control room and bus pass counter. To top this, as many as 41 new BMTC routes were announced with 206 schedules. Around 1,545 trips will be operated from this centre to different parts of the city.
Reddy said similar centres will be constructed at Mallasandra, Kengeri Satellite Town, NR Colony, Singapura Layout and BTM Layout. The attempt is to decongest the central business district. The estimated cost of this project is around `80 crore.
To mark the occasion, new bus route named Chakra-10 and route number 284 were inaugurated. The Chakra-10 buses will ply around Yelahanka, and bus number 284 will ply between Yelahanka and Kempegowda Bus Stand.
