Dr Shalini Joshi

BENGALURU: Monsoon has come with a bang, uprooting trees, causing havoc in the traffic and hence adding few more hours to the commute of a common man. The open drains and heaps of garbage on the roadside with peculiar odour is a common sight throughout Bengaluru more so in last few years. On the contrary the cool showers are a boon to the farmer who has long been waiting for the monsoon to bless his crop. But with the rains come a host of ailments in the monsoon season affecting masses with Dengue fever and other viral illnesses.

Here are a few tips to be safe this monsoon season:

■ Wear full sleeves clothing and keep yourself covered to avoid mosquito bites.

■ Use mosquito repellents, mosquito nets at home.

■ Keep layers of clothes to keep warm.

■ Restrain yourself from eating raw street food, consume food which has been cooked.

■ Drink clean, filtered or boiled water.

■ Wash hands with soap.

■ Do not self-medicate, especially with antibiotics

■ Visit an experienced doctor for complete assessment of your symptoms.
