BENGALURU: Thanks to the rush to get out of the city and hop on to buses and trains to celebrate Dasara at various destinations, Namma Metro clocked its second highest ridership on Friday.

“We touched nearly 1.9 lakh commuters on both lines on Friday,” said Pradeep Singh Kharola, Managing Director, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. The East-West Line covers Baiyappanahalli and Mysore Road while the North-South Line connects Nagasandra and Mantri Mall Sampige Road. “This marks the second highest ridership registered by Metro,” Kharola said. Trains heading towards Kempe Gowda Interchange Station and City Railway station Metro stops were practically full with passengers and their luggage jostling for space.

The previous highest ridership was recorded on July 28 with Metro clocking 1,97,928 commuters. That was achieved in view of the total bus strike and extra trips run by Metro to ferry passengers.
