BENGALURU: anBengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s cash cows, its Volvo buses, are facing service issues sooner than expected.
As per information available from BMTC, over 700 Volvo buses are plying in the city of which 50 have shown various problems even before the completion of service timelines fixed by the company.
“The company representatives are not responding properly when we approach them for service,” said a BMTC source. Meanwhile, BMTC is losing up to `20 crore every month due to service and repair issues of the buses.
“Volvo buses are A/C vehicles and are mostly preferred by commuters for long journeys to areas like IT corridors. The buses also generate the highest revenue for BMTC. We have approached the company officials and they have promised to get the service done,” said an official.
Another official said the company people were saying the buses were facing issues due to traffic issues. “This is the standard answer we got from company representatives when we approach them for service. They say that, compared to Volvo buses plying on highways, the ones being operated in the city are requiring service earlier and the reason they found was traffic issues,” an official said.
Recently, BMTC chairman Nagesh Yadav visited the garage and met Volvo authorities and requested to do servicing of buses on a priority basis.
