BENGALURU: A gang of four unidentified men attacked a 32-year-old catering contractor, killing him, over the issue of smoking during the procession of a local deity (grama devata), at B Street in Ashoknagar early on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Harish, a resident of Shanthinagar, who was working in a private firm on KH Double Road.

Police said the incident occurred around 2:30 am. Harish was asleep and came out to the balcony after hearing loud music. He noticed a group of four people smoking even as the procession was passing by. Harish objected it and forced them to leave the spot. Angry over this, they picked a quarrel with him and, in a fit of rage, they attacked him with a sharp weapon and bludgeoned him.

Harish’s family, who heard the commotion, came out to see what had happened and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead due to heavy bleeding.
