BENGALURU:Soladevanahalli police on Monday questioned four students after a dead peacock was found in the backyard of a house that belongs to one of the suspects. A police officer said, “We received an alert from the police control room on Sunday morning, after which an assistant sub-inspector Anjanappa visited the spot where the peacock was dead. Kiran, who is studying in a private college, was questioned about the incident. He said he was not aware of it and was also shocked when police inspected the scene at his premise. However, we questioned three of his friends and came to the conclusion that someone tried to falsely link them to the case.”

However, the informer, who called police control room, had switched off his phone.“The caller, Raju, a native of Kollegal, called from Doddaballapura to alert the police. But, after a couple of hours, his phone was switched off. We suspect that he might have had some plan to fix Kiran and his friends as he told police about the house owner’s name when he called the control room. The experts who examined the peacock confirmed that it was bludgeoned to death and the attackers used a stone.

They killed it somewhere else and later threw it in the backyard of the house. CCTV footage has also been obtained to ascertain the movements of the suspects who are behind the crime. Further investigations are on,” the officer added. In India, Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, seeks to provide protection to peacocks.
