BENGALURU: People with unique achievements to their credit in the social sector were awarded at a conference for South Indian NGOs here on Saturday.

The awardees had diverse achievements to their credit. For instance, Ahmed Ali, an 82-year-old rickshaw puller from Assam, has been setting up schools since 1978. He was conferred with the lifetime achievement award. Mumbai-based Aabid Surti (83) has founded an organisation that repairs minor plumbing problems in Mumbai’s households to save water.

Mohammed Imran Khan, a web developer from Rajasthan, has developed over 75 educational mobile apps and over 100 websites. In 2015, Khan donated 50 apps to the MHRD Ministry.  The event, titled ‘7th South India NGOs Conference’, was attended by Chairman, Directorate of Minorities Naseer Ahmed.
