BENGALURU: Former Chief Secretary of Karnataka Kaushik Mukherjee’s house in HSR Layout was burgled on Saturday evening. Gold and other valuables worth `25 lakh were stolen by a gang of unidentified men. The incident came just four days after retired IPS officer M V Murthy’s house was burgled in the same locality.

The police are yet to verify whether it was the same gang, which targeted both the retired officials’ houses.
A senior police officer from HSR Layout said Mukherjee has alleged in his complaint that the incident took place on Saturday evening when he, along with his wife had gone to their friend’s house before going to a mall for shopping.

Around 11 pm, they returned home and were shocked to see their home ransacked and the rear door broken open.  The burglars had made away with costly watches, earrings, six gold bangles and three diamond rings, all worth `25 lakh.

There is a small garden behind Mukherjee residence, and the police feel that the gang of burglars may have jumped the compound wall, broken the window glasses and opened the back door to gain entry.
CCTV footage from Mukherjee’s house is being verified and three persons have already been taken into custody for interrogation. They were walking suspiciously in the locality on June 15 and 16.
