BENGALURU: Following the recent incidents of question paper leak, the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, is mulling the introduction of ‘digital jumbling’ of question papers.
In a recent question paper leak, the involvement of one of the senior professors of a private engineering college affiliated to VTU has been proven and he was also one of the experts who had set the question papers for the civil engineering branch.
Considering this seriously, the university is thinking of adopting ‘digital jumbling’ of question papers using technology. Under this system, VTU will upload all the 10 sets of question papers prepared by different professors and the system will jumble them to set a fresh question paper.
Speaking about it, Prof Karisiddappa, vice-chancellor of VTU said, “We are seriously thinking of digital question paper-setting system to avoid any kind of malpractice. A final decision about this will be taken soon.”
After the recent question paper leak, the university has decided to file a police complaint against the professor who was involved in the paper leak.
Mini-Projects
From the next academic year, undergraduate engineering students have to undertake projects in the 4th and 5th semesters itself. Till now, students were asked to take up projects only in the final year, but the university is making ‘mini-projects’ compulsory from the next academic year.
The mini projects are part of a newly introduced model curriculum by the university wherein students will be allowed to carry out projects within their college campus during the 4th and 5th semesters. Various technical experts from the industry will assist the students to execute these projects which will carry three credits.
Meanwhile, VTU will be allowing inter-disciplinary projects from the current academic year itself. This is being introduced after the introduction of a new curriculum for engineering courses. “With this, a civil engineering student can take projects in computer science or any other branch. We are in an era of inter-disciplinary learning and projects. Students require sufficient knowledge and they can grasp it this way,” explained the VC.
