BENGALURU: Considering the various issues faced by the students of Maharani Cluster University, Upa Lokayuktas Justice KN Phanindra and Justice B Veerappa paid a surprise visit to the university and its hostels to verify the authenticity of anonymous complaints they had received.

During their visit to the Department of Commerce and Business Management of the university, they found graffiti on walls, damp and damaged walls, broken windows and a general lack of cleanliness and hygiene.

The toilets emitted foul odour, while water tanks had not been cleaned or maintained. The student hostel had insufficient rooms, toilets and bathrooms. The students were also not provided sweets, non-vegetarian foods and eggs at regular intervals as prescribed by the government. They were provided cots with no beds, pillows and bedspreads.

In the Home Science Department’s hostel, there was no permanent electricity supply, causing inconvenience to students. Furthermore, the hostel also suffered from a severe shortage of potable water and general water supply. They also ordered an inquiry into the issues faced by the students, tasking the Additional Registrar with submitting a report.
