BENGALURU: Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) will soon implement a ‘smart parking management system’ in Jayanagar Assembly constituency to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety.

The corporation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with M/s ParkLens India Pvt Ltd on Friday in this regard.

According to BSCC Commissioner KN Ramesh, Jayanagar constituency has 281 km of 1,215 roads. After a comprehensive study and getting clearance from the traffic police, 42 major commercial roads (31.65 km) have been identified to implement the new parking system.

“In all, 4,749 parking zones are being created on 42 roads. Of them, 3,800 are for two-wheelers and over 900 for cars. Besides, there will be bays for auto-rickshaws, bicycles and passengers. Motorists can check the availability of space via a mobile app, website and digital display boards, and make cashless payments,” Ramesh said.

He said free parking will be permitted between midnight and 9 am for local residents in designated zones.

M/s ParkLens India Private Limited has been selected through an open tender on the Karnataka public procurement portal based on a five-year Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
