BMTC fines 2,801 ticketless passengers, collects Rs 6 lakh

BMTC urged passengers to always carry valid tickets, day passes, or monthly passes while travelling to avoid penalties.

BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) collected fines of Rs 6,34,865 after a series of intense checks to curb ticketless travel and revenue leakage. Across the city, 18,409 buses trips were checked and 2,801 ticketless passengers were caught in December.

Also, action was taken against male passengers occupying seats reserved for women. In all, 250 men were fined Rs 25,000 under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Overall, fines worth Rs 6,59,865 were collected from 3,051 passengers.

Also, 1,748 cases were registered against conductors. BMTC urged passengers to always carry valid tickets, day passes or monthly passes while travelling to avoid penalties and help the organisation improve services. It also appealed to male passengers to vacate seats reserved for women and ensure a safe and respectful travel environment.
