BHUBANESWAR: An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her landlord in Kalinga Nagar area of the city.
As per reports, the incident took place on December 4 when the parents of the girl were absent from home.
Acting on the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, the Mahila Police arrested accused Naresh Mohanty (40) in this connection and has registered a case under POCSO Act and relevant sections of BNS.
Police sources said the parents of the victim were working as daily wagers. Taking advantage of their absence, the accused entered their rented accommodation and forcibly raped their minor daughter. He also allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone, the victim’s father alleged.
However, after her parents found the girl in trauma and pain and came to know about the incident on December 10, they admitted her to a hospital and lodged a complaint with the Mahila Police. The accused has been forwarded to court following his arrest, police said.
State Commission for Women member Urmila Mohapatra visited the hospital and spoke to the victim’s parents. “The assault took place inside the house when the girl’s parents were away. The accused has been arrested and strict action will be taken against him. We will ensure that the girl gets justice,” Mohapatra said.
