BHUBANESWAR: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025 and two other bills pertaining to Union Territories held a crucial consultation meeting in the city on Wednesday, as part of its nationwide stakeholders outreach.
The committee, chaired by BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, interacted with representatives of the state government, the OHRC and Gopabandhu Academy of Administration and Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies at a meeting in Bhubaneswar.
Sarangi described the discussions as valuable and insightful and stated that the suggestions received would be incorporated into the committee’s final report to be submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
“The main purpose of these three bills is to safeguard constitutional morality and decriminalise politics. We need to make our democracy very clean, vibrant and free from criminality,” she told mediapersons. The JPC is tasked with examining the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, the J&K Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Government of UTs (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
